The unusually rapid retirement of Garcia resulted from an alleged lawsuit brought by the Garcia family against Ty, Inc. Claiming the name Garcia was used without the family’s permission. In response to the lawsuit, Garcia the bear was retired and replaced by a similar bear named Peace. Garcia’s retirement date of May 11, 1997, is the same date Peace was introduced. The new Peace bear was identical to Garcia except for the name, tags and the peace symbol on Peace’s chest. Garcia’s is made with the same tie-dye fabric as Coral (style 4079). Ty Beanie Baby Original, Authentic & Discontinued. No star on tush tag. No stamp on tush tag (Means not Mass Produced). Rare Deutschland 90008 Nurnberg Designation on swing Tag. Pellets (Means original version). No comma between Oakbrook and IL on swing tag. The tush tag has both REG NO PA & 1965 (KR). [This means it encompassed the Korean Market]. Hang tag style 4051.
